News September 7. 2003 The FRIdemokratene Fall Conference is coming up on Ocktober 11. This will be great, we have gotten a very interesting key note speaker from Fremskrittspartiet Mr. Torgeir Høien. Mr. Høien will speak about private education, but I am just as eager to pick his brain on economic policy, he used to be on the board of the Norwegian National Bank. September 6. 2003 I am a devoted Euro skeptic and I am horrified by the recent expansion of the European Union. I am very strongly against Norway joining the EU and I am against Sweden joining the Euro currency. This upcoming weekend I will be in Stockholm participating in the No to Euro campaign and the election night. If you are a Swede I strongly recommend you to vote "No!" to the Euro. Some of my friends in Sweden have been leading the Citizens Against the Euro campaign. May we be victorious on the 13th! http://www.mmemu.org August 29. 2003 runbox just signed the lease for a new office in Oslo from October 1. The new office is a lot bigger, with plenty of expansion possibilities. The new office in Waldemar Thranes gate 98, 2 floor is located right in the heart of Norway open source IT district by the river Akerselva. The successful Opera Software www.opera.com maker of the Opera browser is located in the fourth floor of the building with more than 100 employees. The successful Troll Tech www.trolltech.no is located on the third floor. Most importantly the new office is door to door to our close partner Linpro AS www.linpro.no that is doing a large part of the maintenance for runbox and the 24/7/365 monitoring of the system. Linpro is a successful company with about 40 employees. In the new office runbox will be in an even better position to further the development of the runbox in the years to come, increase staff, raise money for expansion, be profitable and have a great time making the worlds best email system. We are very exited about this move. August. 2003. Wow, its been a great summer. Have been traveling quite a bit. Spent a weekend i Moscow with friends. Saw Lenin, the Kreml and had a great time. Attended the ISIL world conference in Vilnius, Lithuania in July. It was great. I spent a week at the Struten Lighthouse, fantastic! I spent a weekend in Sweden with Frihetsfronten at their Summer Seminar. At the summer seminar I took some audio recordings and quite a few photos. My friend Bent Johan Mosfjell wrote a great report about the Summer Seminar on Liberaleren. I attended a week seminar "Advanced Economics" at FEE in Irvington just outside New York (photo) - it was great. FEE is now run by the new President Richard Ebeling (photo). I was even in New York during the blackout, so we had to move the seminar outdoors in the heat (photo). You can now fly round trip from Oslo to New York for USD 560, a great price. Then I spent a weekend in Washington D.C. visiting think thanks and seeing friends. At the Atlas Foundation I met up with my friend Thompson Ayodele (photo) who is running the Ippa think thank in Nigeria. Now I am spending the rest of the summer with a friend in a great flat on Aker Brygge in downtown Oslo. July 24. 2003 Fredrikstad Blad did an interview with me on the EU. My friend Morten Fjeldberg did an oped a few days later. May. 2003 My friend Hanna Cecilie Skurdal has released her Kitschforum at http://www.kitschforum.no. It is of great interest and of great importance how she is working to integrate Ayn Rands philosophy of art and Odd Nerdrums concept of kitsch. I believe this is the start of some very important work in the years to come as the word rediscovers romanticism. May. 2003 I have decided to delay my trip to New York. I am now tentatively going there in early June. May. 2003. We have obtained the domain farmand.com www.farmand.com . Publication of Farmand on the internet will be done on this domain. March 10. 2003. New website launched. www.lysglimt.com - you are looking at it right now. March 7. 2003. Norway's #1 business daily Dagens Næringsliv today covered me in their "readings on the night-table" section. I am quoted to read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, the Trygve Hegnar biography and back issues of the classical Farmand business magazine. Read the article here. February 22./23. 2003 Technology columnist Tellef Øgrim in Norway's #1 business daily Dagens Næringsliv today did a piece on runbox AS. Øgrim focused on the transition runbox has done from free service to a for-pay service and the 3% that we got to pay. Read the article here - in Norwegian. Read the article here - my unauthorized translation into English. January 14. 2003. Norway's #1 business daily Dagens Næringsliv covers Farmand. http://www.dn.no/artikkel?ID=EPS_77075 January 14. 2003 Farmand Website launched www.farmand24.no January 13. 2003 Trademark "Farmand" is granted to the undersigned by Norwegian trademark authorities. Founded in 1891 Farmand was for almost 100 years a central element in Norwegian media. Farmand was discontinued in 1989 and due to more than 10 years of nonuse I was able to obtain it. December 5. 2002 FRIdemokratenes Bookstore Bauta Bøker was today re-launched with a brand new logo and a new website. Make sure you order your favorite literature and your Xmas gifts through Bauta Bøker at www.bauta.no December 2. 2002 Norwegian private TV company TV 2 has today officially launched runbox as their email service on their website www.tv2.no and Text TV (page 767). This is a great step forward for runbox and the team at runbox is greatly looking forward to working with TV 2 in the years to come. December 2002. I have decided to spend Christmas and New Year's on Gran Canaria in the city of Arguineguin. I will go around December 14-17 and be back around January 6-13. 2003. I will rent an apartment down there. Several friends have already committed to coming down there at the same time. I want to have a lot of friends around, so it would be great if you came down. I will make arrangements to be able to go here on a regular basis during mid winter, on what I call "work holiday", part work - part holiday. Why Gran Canaria? The simple reason is that Gran Canaria is the most well connected place in the sun from Scandinavia. In the winter there are as many flights from Oslo to Gran Canaria than there are flights to Berlin, you can come and go as you please. Gran Canaria has perfect climate, and being within Europe it is clean, safe and has all kinds of infrastructure. Lastly it is on the same time as Norway so you can work while you enjoy the Atlantic breeze. runbox has access to a nice office in Areguineguin with 2 MB broadband internet connection, telephone fax etc. We can sit in the sun and work as if we where downtown Oslo - nice. Here is a great site for information on Arguineguin www.arguineguin.info . I will be at the great Lan party on Gran Canaria from December 19-22. You can get to Gran Canaria really inexpensively (USD 200-400 for 1-2 weeks), follow this link to find last minute charter tours from the Oslo area. www.solfaktor.com November 2002 On December 3 I will speak on First Tuesday in Bergen. www.firsttuesdaybergen.no November 2002 Fredrikstad Blad, the newspaper in my home town, did a 3 full-page piece on the news that I was reelected as president of FRIdemokratene. See article: Lysglimt in Fredrikstad Blad See the piece on FRIdemokratene: FRIdemokratene in Fredrikstad Blad October 2002 I have been reelected as president of FRIdemokratene in Norway for 2002-2003. FRIdemokratene is enjoying good progress. Especially at the University of Oslo we are making the libertarian cause heard. Please observe that the Cato Institute in Washington D.C. is now linking to FRIdemokratene www.cato.org . www.fridemokratene.no |
